Venus, Pluto and Uranus

“We are here to awaken from the illusion of our separateness.” Thich Nhat Hanh

The influence of Venus is strong this week as the planet of love, pleasure and beauty moves up to aspect Pluto the planet of transformation and Uranus the planet of freedom and innovation. It is a good week to take a break from habitual ways of thinking about relationships and the way you normally define them. Be aware of your trajectory of evolution. Investigate what other opportunities are present for relating to others in a new way.

Take a good look at how you nurture yourself and your dreams on a deeper level and ascertain if improvements would be beneficial. Set an intention to alter your perspective and move forward in a revived way.

The times we are living in have a revolutionary nature to them – when old, outdated forms of authority are upended. This applies to your inner life as well as your experience of outer events.

It is a good time to harness the winds of change. One of the Sabian symbols for the Venus/ Pluto alignment is, “Circular paths.” Another is, ” In the heat of noon a person takes a siesta.”

A Tarot Card reader or Astrologer should be a wise ally on your life’s journey.

Storms, High Seas and Neptune

The aspects for the hurricane headed towards the east coast indicate that it has the potential to be, as some are forecasting “a storm unlike one we have ever seen.” The Mars Jupiter opposition indicates it could have an excessive nature to it – and it is forecast to cover and impact upon a very large area with high winds, heavy rains and high tides. The Sun/Saturn conjunction may have some tough lessons to teach about the consequences of outdated infrastructure which can wreak havoc with power transmission.

It is good to remember that with the ongoing Pluto/Uranus square events like this contain lessons about how we need to be moving into the future. For example in the major storm which hit VT last year people with a solar powered systems welcomed in their friends and neighbors for showers and hot drinks as their sun powered system never flickered. The lights from their house blazed through the unaccustomed and chilly darkness.

Neptune, the god of the sea is involved in this storm – stirring up the ocean as he waves his trident. Neptune governs rain, fog and mist as well. Neptune has an ethereal influence and is strong in the charts of artists, spiritual seekers, mystics, healers as well as people particularly prone to addiction, illusion and deception. Neptune is associated with a sense of being victimized but the higher level has to do with sacrifice and redemption.

Here in New Hampshire we had a storm recently which knocked out power for an extended period of time when the temperatures were frigid. It is easy under these circumstances to miss our creature comforts and feel self pity. Another response was demonstrated by the people who drove immediately to the town shelters to help organize, cook or volunteer for whatever needed to be done.

This illustrates the redemptive power of Neptune – transforming self pity into empathy, and dynamic, compassionate action. And although we hear a lot about the need for individual enterprise and success these days, the values of the Age of Aquarius encourage us to take the view that “we are all in the same boat” and to cooperate and collaborate to create a more harmonious future.

Aries Full Moon / Weekend Astrology

“The bad news is, there is no key to the Universe. The good news is, it has been left unlocked.” Swami Beyondananda
One time a vet offered me some excellent advice about keeping my dog safe from being quilled by a porcupine. He said,” Keep him in two nights before and two nights after the Full Moon.” The vet was aware of the old adage, “Full Moons are two days coming and two days going.” Saturday’s Full Moon at 7 degrees of Aries is no exception. The dynamic energies at this time can lead to breakthroughs in blocked areas as well as moments of illumination and heightened awareness. Volatility is also part of the mix and it’s best to avoid or disengage from conflict as deep emotions can more easily be triggered. It’s also wise to guard against erratic and impulsive behavior.

Question Authority

There was a bumper sticker popular in the Sixties when Uranus and Pluto were consorting together as they are now. It read “Question Authority.”  Once again we are seeing this sentiment expressed throughout the world with the birth of the Occupy Movement as protests arise against current economic, political and social values and policies. December 10th’s Full Moon Lunar eclipse occurred at 9:36 am EST.  This eclipse opens a new chapter into rethinking values and authenticity. It is a good idea under this influence to revisit values, assumptions and philosophies – personal and political – to see if they are in need of evolution in order to live more authentically

On Mercury Retrograde

“Life is what happens when you’re making other plans.”John Lennon

There was a saying popularized in the sixties – when Uranus and Pluto were in close aspect as they are now. It was a revolutionary time and the revolution had a spiritual and intellectual side as well as a political one. The saying was “flow with it,” meaning that it was preferable to presume that there were higher forces at play when mundane plans went awry. This is a good philosophy to live by when Mercury is retrograde as it is now through Dec 14th EST.

Yesterday after Mercury had turned retrograde I was awaiting a call from a friend who was in town for the holiday. She had said she would call before she came by early in the morning so we would have time together before her departure at noon.

I had been planning to take drive up to the surrounding hills for a hike in the morning and decided to wait for her call to see if she wanted to go with me.  I busied myself around the house until 11 or so and the call never came. I knew this kind of thing happens under Mercury retrograde – delays, miscommunications etc, and realized that it might be better to take a walk around my neighborhood instead while I was waiting for her. I left her a note and took off on foot down the street.  Some neighbors were out in their yard stacking wood and I thought as I walked past them that I should turn around and introduce myself as I had wanted to meet them for some time. I speculated that they might be kindred spirits.

I turned around and as it turns out we had more in common than I had thought and made plans to visit again in the future. As our conversation wound down my phone rang and it was my friend saying she was on her way.

It’s best under Mercury retrograde to assume that delays or snafus happen for a purpose – rather than stoking the fires of anger, impatience or self righteousness. When we push too hard for our own individual agenda under these influences it is possible to miss windows of opportunity that can be present.
