Jupiter, newly entered into the sign of Pisces is now squaring the Lunar Nodes – with the North Node in Gemini and the South Node in Sagittarius. This represents a significant choice point. When making  decisions it’s wise  to consider whether the choice is being made out of old or perhaps outdated thinking, or if it represents a direction you want to pursue in the future.

It’s a good time to consider whether thinking or communication has become too rigid or dogmatic and could use some updating.

It’s a time that bodes well for increased benevolence and good will as well as a good time for learning, discovery and new approaches in thinking.

I have been fortunate throughout my life to live near a spring house or a spring in a field where the water bubbles up from the ground. These are the kind of places that people make pilgrimages to throughout the world for their  healing  or regenerative  powers.

The water element symbolically represents the emotional, creative and spiritual side of life and making a pilgrimage to one of these somewhat mystical sites can signal a new start in these areas of life.

New Years  is not a particularly significant day in astrology  for beginnings but the New Moon on Sunday is.  As we move towards it there’s good timing to “rake the leaves away” and “watch the water clear” – in other words to clear vision for dreams and aspirations of the future.

It’s wise to think of providing protection for your  aspirations, too, with safe boundaries – as the young calf depends on her mother.

Jupiter entered the sign of Pisces-a comfortable placement for this god of expansion , optimism and pleasure- late Tuesday night EDT. Jupiter will transit through this sign through mid May and then again in late October through much of December.

It’s a good time to broaden horizons and consider new possibilities.

There’s just nothing like good timing. Venus is now retrograde and astrologer and author Eric Francis describes this time (through the end of  January) as Venus, the goddess of love, in search of “the other” in the Underworld.  This is because Venus is  conjunct Pluto and makes the exact conjunction three times – the last being in early March.

The Underworld is Pluto’s realm where unknowing becomes transformed into evolved  conscious awareness.  With Underworld journeys though, there is always a sense of unknowing or walking through the darkness as Persephone did.

There is a solitary nature to this journey.

We are living through times of great change on the planet and so many things are up  for review.

The journey of Venus through this territory offers a fertile time to look more deeply into thoughts and beliefs about love and relationship.

The Sun entered Capricorn today ushering in the Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, Saturn is moving up to his third and challenging alignment with Uranus.  Saturn in this aspect reminds me of the Ten of Wands in the Tarot deck. In Waite’s deck, Pamela Coleman Smith’s painting is of a man overburdened by carrying a heavy load of wood.  Saturn governs restrictions, responsibilities and the burdens we carry. Uranus on the other hand governs freedom- and making a sudden break for freedom. Uranus is also associated with sudden illumination, breakthroughs and  revelation.

So it bodes well at this time to consider what responsibilities or burdens we carry that might be up for review or renewal.

Saturn also governs the way we structure our lives to accommodate the needs of body, mind and spirit.  It’s wise to look at this area of life as well and whether desired changes or improvements can be made.

Renewal is on the table too as we look forward a New Year of  potentials and possibilities.

Saturday’s Full Moon is at 11:36 PM EDT at 27 degrees of Gemini.  In the chart for this time Jupiter, the planet of hope, faith and expansion (and miracles) is making a favorable aspect to both the Sun and Moon. It is a good time to cultivate optimism for the future.

Mercury is aligning favorably with Uranus indicating innovative thinking is supported in the realms of problem solving and envisioning the future.

The Sun enters the sign of Capricorn -heralding the return of the light- at the time of the Winter Solstice on Tuesday the 21st.  It bodes well to use the time leading up to that to focus on new ideas and plans and what needs to be changed or transformed to make them manifest.

I have a friend who does an astrology report every week on a radio station in Boston. It is a small public station, student run  and associated with a university. This morning when I tuned in before my friend’s show, they were playing a piece of music which I had loved in the past and not heard in a long time. It was from the Paul Winter’s album, Canyon Lullaby.

I made a note of it with the intention of listening to his music again. It reminded  me that Venus is slowing down now to station retrograde Sunday December 19 at 26 degrees of Capricorn. This retrograde period which lasts through late January 2022 provides good timing to bring things back into your life that you have loved or valued in the past.

Venus also rules finances and the retrograde period provides a good time to review the use of your resources and whether you might like to put them to work in other ways.

It is also a good time to reassess – given the many changes in the world  around us – how your values may have changed.  The sign of Capricorn is associated with tradition and the conditioning  from family, society , religion, culture etc  to be or live a certain way. The time we are living in though, is associated with evolution and authenticity. So this retrograde offers an opportunity to explore ideas of a life freer from those influences or the pressures exerted by those influences if so desired.

I ran into a friend who told me his partner was moving in with him that day  and that she had gathered up all her belongings in her VW and was bringing them to his house. “She’s not a material girl,” he said smiling. She was in fact working for an international peace organization and living simply  and working at her job was what she cared about most in her life. There is a movement afoot now to live more simply and focus on what is meaningful in life rather than pursuing a more traditional career.

The upcoming week as we approach the Full Moon in Gemini is a good time for expanding thoughts about the future and the possibilities it might hold. This is a more powerful time with the Sun in Sagittarius and conjunct the Galactic Center at the time of Saturday’s Full Moon. The Galactic Center is the point about which our galaxy rotates and  is a powerful point of attraction.

This week Mercury aligns with Neptune bringing together the planet of thought and communication with the planet that rules all things ethereal. It is wise to double check thoughts for accuracy and to make an effort to communicate more clearly as misunderstandings can more easily occur and memory is likely not as sharp as at other times.

Jupiter is squaring Mars- indicating a lot of energy is available for moving projects forward. One of the expressions associated with this duo, though, is “overshooting the mark.” It’s wise to keep balance and moderation in mind. Opinions can get more heated under this influence and more dogmatic.

Venus in Capricorn is center stage this week as she engages the Pluto/Eris square and moves up to a conjunction with Pluto. This provides good timing for getting in touch with what you feel passionate about in your life. It is an alignment of deep feelings and can sometimes bring up feelings of loss and grief. It provides a good time for the revisioning  and healing of old wounds related to love – self love included. And to think about love in the deeper sense – as a force in the world.

The wind is at our backs with the New Moon Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius on Dec 4. Sagittarius is the sign of the higher mind and  big picture thinking. This Eclipse opens a window on an optimistic time and bodes well for exploring opportunities for future growth and expansion. With appropriate planning there is the likelihood of accomplishing something now that at other times may have not seemed doable.

The Eclipse aligns positively with both Mercury and Saturn bringing clarity of thought and a stabilizing influence. In aligning with Uranus it  gives the ability to cut ties with things that have been  holding us back.
