“Varnished weeds in window jars
Tarnished beads on tapestries
Kept in satin boxes are
Reflections of love’s memories
Letters from across the seas
Roses dipped in sealing wax
Valentines and maple leaves
Tucked into a paperback
I found someone to love today.” Joni Mitchell
“For last year’s words belong to last year’s language
And next year’s words await another voice.”
Well here we are in Scorpio season – with the Sun, Vesta Mars and Mercury all in the sign of Scorpio. One of the symbols of this mysterious sign is the phoenix rising from the ashes – a sign of rebirth and regeneration after an ending. We personally go through these cycles of life/death and rebirth often without acknowledging them or the significance of them. The sign of Scorpio reminds us that there is power in the process of letting go of what we have outgrown or old patterns we’d like to change.
One of the meaningful ways to commemorate an ending is with a ritual of some sort – such as throwing things away which symbolize a former time or experience as Joni Mitchell- herself a Scorpio- described in her lyrics.
It’s a good time to clean out closets and basements. It’s also a good time to identify thoughts and actions that are no longer helpful and are prohibiting further growth and evolution. Once written down these can be thrown out or thrown in the fire with the intention of letting them go.
The Jungian psychologist Marion Woodman wrote a book entitled,”Dancing in the Flames” – an appropriate image for this time.
The Sun will be in Scorpio through November 21.
