Venus, Mercury, Jupiter and This Week’s Astrology

“Thinking is the talking of the soul with itself. All thoughts begin in wonder.” Plato

“To love is not a state. It is a direction.” Simone Weil

Mercury moves up to a conjunction to Jupiter this week making it a very good time for expanding your thinking, for exploring, learning and travel. The favorable alignment occurs at 27 degrees of Scorpio adding the depth of perception and expansion to big picture thinking.

Mercury is also making a favorable aspect to retrograde Chiron in Pisces. This bodes well for revisiting and rethinking any healing endeavors. . Chiron is the asteroid that, with conscious awareness, can contribute to the healing of what is fragmented. It is a good time to look for what might have been overlooked or missing pieces to the puzzle. This is a metaphysical duo and with a number of planets in Scorpio,  it is a time of mystery – a  good time to pursue what is mysterious to you.

Venus the goddess of love and abundance is squaring the Lunar Nodes now. It’s a good time to think about self care going forward. It is a crossroad of sorts where new people enter your life and others can become more distant.  It’s a good time to consider the kinds of people and relationships you would like to be drawing into your life now.

Venus will oppose Uranus this week. There is considerable upheaval in the relationship between the Masculine and Feminine now (in both men and women)  which is calling for new models of relationship and more consciousness in relating. This aspect  is likely to heighten the atmosphere around these issues.

The Sabian symbol for Venus squaring the Nodes is, “A broken bottle and spilled perfume.”

This Week’s Astrology

“Though my soul may set in darkness,
It will rise in perfect light.
I have loved the stars too fondly
To be fearful of the night.” Epitaph of Galileo

“Attraction is an organizing force of the universe.” Margaret Wheatley

The Sun moves out of Libra and into the sign of Scorpio Tuesday ushering in the dark time of year in the northern hemisphere in which the focus turns inward.

This week relationships are on the front burner. It’s a good time to look at  whether you are satisfied with your relationship dynamics and whether the balance of giving and receiving feels authentic and in line with your current evolutionary trajectory.

The Moon waxes full Wednesday at 1 degree of Taurus conjunct the planet of the unexpected, Uranus. The sign of Taurus governs values and what we value including things that represent material security. There may be surprising developments now related to  the house (area of life) this Full Moon is falling in your chart. Uranus is known as the Great Awakener.

Juno, the asteroid governing relationship commitments retrogrades back into the sign of Taurus this week. This is an echo of the Venus retrograde which will with us through Nov 16. It bodes well to review, revisit and reconsider what you value in relationship and what you would like to be creating in terms of a sense of security and wellbeing in your life. It’s a good time to review commitments of all kinds and see if updating or reprioritizing  is called for.

The Sun will move up to a conjunction with retrograde Venus this week – indicating there can be revelations about self respect, love, finances and security. Do consider any intuitions that surface in this area.

It is wise to remember we are living in times of great change, Providing extra downtime bodes well.

One of the Sabian symbols for the Sun’s ingress into Scorpio is, “A youth holding a candle in a devotional ritual gets a sense of the great ‘other world.'”

October’s Full Moon

“As you know, any plain person you chance to meet can prove to be a powerful immortal in disguise come to test you.” Maxine Hong Kingston

“Women’s spirituality is wild and free, matured, earthy, relational, mystical, embodied, intuitive, sensuous, compassionate.” Joan Borysenko

I recently watched an interview with a Catholic nun working with Catholic Relief Services in the southwest US with the many refugee children held in detention centers without their parents.

The  reporter interviewing her kept asking her leading questions that could easily have resulted in her criticizing government policy or government officials. Instead, each time she was asked a question like that, she would  calmly say,”We came here to take care of each other.”

The Moon, which governs mothering and nurturing, waxes full the 24th of October at 1 degree of Taurus. The configuration at this time speaks of the re-emergence of the Divine Feminine and the considerable push back it is facing on the planet at this time. The Moon is conjunct Uranus opposing the Sun conjunct retrograde Venus – the Moon and Venus govern  aspects of the feminine in both men and women.

The Moon/Uranus in Taurus speaks very much of a break for freedom from limited emotional programming and beliefs of the past – beliefs that may have come down through ancestral or family lines, or through cultural or religious systems. It can be a time when you have sudden breakthroughs about emotional patterning that has kept you feeling trapped.

It bodes well to provide extra downtime and to nurture the nervous system heading into this time.

Teilhard de Chardin has written,” Evolution is an ascent towards consciousness” – a good thing to keep in mind at this Full Moon.

The Sabian symbol for this time is,” An electrical storm illuminates the heavens and the forests.”

Relationships, Transformation and Empowerment – This Week’s Astrology

“And all the obstacles along the way
Sometimes may feel so tremendous
There are guides and spirits all along the way
Who will befriend us.” Van Morrison

“Evaluating our beliefs is a spiritual and biological necessity. Our physical bodies, minds and spirits all require new ideas in order to thrive.” Caroline Myss

Starhawk, the author and visionary activist on the forefront of the Goddess movement, some years ago organized a group of  activists to occupy the  site of a soon to be built nuclear power plant on the ocean in California. The activists regarded the land there, including the hill that towered over it, as sacred. Their objections to the nuclear plant had a spiritual component as well as a physical one.

On the first day of the occupation they were arrested by the police on the beach and carted off to jail.  That night, after securing their release, they used Tarot Card readings to determine the best path back over the hill in order to access the site without detection from the authorities.

As they hiked up a different path the next day, a wolf howled near them. Starhawk intuited that the wolf’s cry was a warning to them that the authorities were close by and they adjusted their path and made it back to the beach.

The goddess of the Dark Moon, Lillith is strong in the sky now, being in close conjunction to Mars, the god associated with action and assertiveness. The Dark Moon Lillith often creates a void – a liminal place on the journey to a different kind of knowing where often, intuition and the tools of intuition, like the Tarot deck can provide vision that is not available to the conscious mind.

We are in such a time this week both personally and collectively. And like the Moon card in the Tarot deck which shows wolves  howling on each side of the visible path ahead, in the course of evolution, you can always pause and rethink your strategy when things start to feel too challenging.

Pluto, the god of power and transformation continues to be a strong force in the sky both personally and collectively. This week he forms an aspect to Ceres, the goddess associated with nurturing. It is a reminder of the importance of self care during  liminal times and times of transition. This aspect, which is involved in a yod formation (10/17- 10/27)  bodes well for shadow work – uncovering what you have not seen or had projected in relationship. The yod is a configuration which requires constant adjustment and with Venus retrograde until November 16 it’s wise to remember it’s a process. A good time to review, reflect and reconsider.

The Sabian symbol for the Dark Moon Lillith this week is,” During a silent hour a woman receives information which may change her life.”

Monday’s New Moon in Libra

“Here in the Northern Hemisphere, it is the season of letting go – a time when we make choices of how we will focus our power, how will we set a place at the table for change in our lives and welcome it.” Pat Lilies

“The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances. If there is any reaction, both are transformed.” Carl Jung
The Moon waxes new Monday October 8  at 11:47 PM EDT at 15 degrees of Libra.  This is a relationship Moon. The Sun and Moon are in harmony at this time but being  challenged by Pluto, the lord of the underworld, power and transformation. It provides good timing to think about what type of relationships help you grow your life in the direction you want to be going. And it bodes well to consider which dynamics in relationship you would like to take a step back from.

Ceres, the goddess of the harvest, is strong at this time and is speaking of nourishment. It’s a good time to think about what you find nourishing in your own life as well as your interactions with others.

New Moons are a good time to take action on things that move your life in the direction of increased  inner wholeness and balance.

One of the Sabian symbols for this time is,”After the storms of winter, a boat landing stands in need of reconstruction.”

Venus Stations Retrograde

“A self is not something static, tied up in a parcel, finished and complete. A self is always becoming. Being means becoming. But when we run so fast, it is only when we seem to stop- as sitting on a rock at the brook- that we are aware of our own isness, of being.” Madeleine Engel

“Tell me everything you love.” The English Patient

Venus is slowing down in the sky now preparing for her retrograde station on October 5 at  10 degrees of Scorpio. Venus will dip back into late Libra on Halloween and station direct in mid- November.

This time period provides good timing to reflect on and reconsider what creates a sense of joy, contentment and connectedness in your life. It’s a good time to review how you relate to others and what you value in relationship and partnership.

It’s a good time to look at patterns of behavior created and perpetuated in relationship over time and to think about what draws you feeling- wise into friendship and partnership. What are the lines of commonality and connection? These things are bound to change over time but especially in our time when the trajectory of personal evolution is on the fast track.

It also bodes well to consider issues of self respect and self esteem under this influence and how your relationships impact on that area of your life. The sign of Scorpio can get to the bottom of things with an uncanny perception.

One of the Sabian symbols for this time is,”A fellowship supper reunites old comrades.”

This Week’s Astrology – Pluto, Venus and Michelmas

“To go into the dark with a light is to know the light.
To know the dark, go dark. Go without sight,
And find that the dark, too, blooms and sings,
And is traveled by dark feet and dark wings.” Wendell Berry

The tiny purple Michaelmas daisies- named for the Feast of St Michael or Michaelmas-  are blooming now in New England. For centuries the festival of Michaelmas has been celebrated at this time of year – on or near the Autumn Equinox – when the forces of light and darkness are in balance. Often a play is enacted at the festivals – a play depicting the peasant, George, defeating a dragon with the help of the  Archangel Michael and a band of angels. The taming of the dragon symbolizes the facing and taming of fears -both inner and outer-  by summoning courage.

With the waning of the Fall’s light, Michaelmas is a reminder to rekindle the inner fires of inspiration.

This week contains some very potent astrology. Pluto, the planet of transformation will station direct on Monday and Venus in Scorpio will station retrograde on Friday.  Both of these placements have the ability to penetrate below the normal level of perception with laser like accuracy and bring to the surface information which has been hidden.

It bodes well to heed information that surfaces – through dreams, intuitions or everyday life occurrences which leads to more clarity about issues of the past and leads to a deeper understanding of self worth and self esteem.

One of the Sabian symbols for Pluto’s station is, “A hidden choir singing during a religious service.”

Monday’s Full Moon in Aries

“Until one is committed there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness, concerning all acts and initiative. The moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too.” Goethe

Saturn, the planet of rules, boundaries, tradition and discipline is  highlighted at the time of September’s Full Moon, Monday 9/24 at 10:52 PM EDT  at 2 degrees of the fiery sign, Aries.

With Saturn’s influence this Full Moon can be a time when limitation is felt more strongly and progress may feel blocked or hindered. If so it is wise to slow down, be patient and clarify commitments going forward.

Saturn continues to  align favorably with Uranus- the planet of the future. This aspect bodes well for innovation in thinking. Leave the door open for thinking of old challenges in new ways. Reframe ideas that seem to have outworn their usefulness.  Its best with Saturn’s stabilizing presence to build a bridge from the old or traditional to the new, rather than making a leap.

One of the Sabian symbols for this time is , “A white triangle is seen. It has golden wings.”

This Weeks Astrology – Testy Times with the Mars Uranus Square

“We must create an environment in which change enlivens and enriches the individual and does not overwhelm her.”  Alvin Toffler

“Vesta gathers energy and brings it to a single point, thereby bringing clarity and illumination. Astrologically, individuals with strong Vestas possess the ability to concentrate their energies to a point of focus and bring their full attention to whatever they are doing.” Demetra George

This week’s astrology is highlighted by the exact square of Mars to Uranus which has been an ongoing theme this year. There can be a strong desire to break free of restrictions under this influence. It has a strong willed, rebellious nature.

It is wise to avoid impulsive actions now and to watch for them on the part of others. It can be more of an accident prone time.

It is a good time to look to areas of your life where you have wanted to make changes for some time – areas of life where there tends to be background noise about  taking  action to move things in a better direction. With Vesta now in Capricorn conjunct Saturn, it’s wise to make a list of steps to take to do this – simple steps that you commit to over time. Vesta is associated with the eternal flame and it is wise as well to commit to keeping an inspired vision as you go forward.

One of the Sabian symbols for the Mars/Uranus square is.”Natural steps to a lawn blooming with clover.”

Venus Opposite Uranus and Venus Prepares to Station Retrograde

“During  a long retreat I had what seemed to me to be an earth shattering revelation – that we cannot be in the present and run our story lines at the same time! Impermanence becomes vivid in the present moment; so do compassion and wonder and courage.” Pema Chodren

“Life is a spell so exquisite that everything tries to break it.” Emily Dickinson

Venus is now opposite Uranus and slowing down in the sky in preparation for the Venus Retrograde of 2018. Uranus is the planet of the unexpected and under this influence there can be surprising and sudden events. When it’s  in an opposition to Venus, these events can be related to love, relationship  and to pleasure and abundance. There can be sudden twists and turns of events and plans. Uranus is a freedom loving planet and there can be a desire for more freedom or a sudden break for freedom under this influence.

I was recently reading Broken Open, a book by Elizabeth Lesser, in  which  she describes a love affair she had with a man she calls her “Shaman Lover.”  The experience she describes  is very much the kind of thing that would occur under a Venus/Uranus aspect.

She describes encountering this kind of person this way, “Sometimes the Shaman Lover has been sent by fate to blast us open, to awaken the dead parts of our body, to deliver the kiss of life. And if we succumb we are changed forever.”

There is always an erratic nature to Venus/Uranus relationships and often they come into a person’s  life as an awakening of some kind. Often they do not last, but their impact can be very freeing and life changing.

Traditionally in astrology it is thought that it does not bode well to start a new relationship during a Venus Retrograde time frame. This year Venus  will station retrograde at 15 degrees  of Scorpio on October 5  and retrograde back to 25 degrees of Libra on November 16. The surprising Venus/Uranus influence will be with us through early December due to the retrograde period.

It bodes well under the influence of a Venus Retrograde period  to reconsider your values and what you value.  It’s a good time to revisit what qualities you like in yourself and others and revisit relationship issues. It’s a good time to re-evaluate issues of self esteem and how you attract and create abundance in your life.

One of the Sabian symbols for the Uranus/Venus opposition is,” An electrical storm illuminates the heavens and the forests.”
