Autumn Equinox
Mercury in Libra
Mercury the planet of thought and communication is now in Libra and entering the Pluto/Uranus square. This week provides excellent timing to identify habitual thought patterns that inhibit growth and commit to a more expansive orientation. This will lead to increased opportunities and an awakened sense of abundance. One of the Sabian symbols involved in Mercury’s journey is, ” A man on a magic carpet observes vast vistas below” – a reminder of the importance of perspective.
Sabian symbol quote from Lynda Hill’s360 Degrees of Wisdom
New Moon in Virgo
“The moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help that would never otherwise have occurred…Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.” Goethe
The New Moon falls Saturday September 15 at 10:11 pm EDT at 23 degrees of Virgo. The New Moon is a good time to hit the reset button and start anew with clear intentions. One of the Sabian symbols associated with this degree is “A lion tamer rushes fearlessly into the circus arena,” a reminder of the significant role courage plays in creating successful outcomes.
Uranus squares Pluto
Astrologer and author Melanie Reinhart has described the planet Pluto as the “guardian of the sacred oaths of the soul.” Pluto is strong in the sky now as is Uranus – making this a good time to be aware of insights that reveal how to live more authentically and in closer alignment with our life purpose.

September ’12 Astrology
“We live in a time when the greatest form of courage is to act as if our lives made a difference.” William Sullivan
August provided a bit of relief from the more dynamic transits but come mid September we will be feeling their influence once again. Much of the month concerns transformation and it is a powerful time to harness that energy to effect positive change in our lives.
The first part of the month – before the New Moon on the 15th – take some time to review progress with plans and goals. When the 15th comes clarify intentions for the way forward. Pay particular attention shedding attitudes, assumptions and belief systems that no longer serve you.
September starts off as Mercury aspects Neptune making it an excellent time for creative visualization, meditation and creativity. This aspect can cloud linear thinking and communications though (Neptune rules fog) so it is best, if possible, to avoid making serious decisions, signing legal agreements or making major purchases until after the 5th.
Through the 8th Venus squares Saturn. Under this influence concerns about finances can arise as well as issues related to self esteem. It is best to view these areas of life as in need of transformation and work on envisioning an improved path forward.
The Sun and Mercury will square Jupiter from the 5- the 11th. This can make it an overly active time for communication and thinking. Providing some down time for a quiet walk in nature or some restorative activities would be beneficial.
Midmonth things are likely to heat up as Pluto stations direct on the 18th and the Pluto /Uranus square is exact on the 19th – with the Sun and Mercury involved in a dynamic square. The Pluto/Uranus transit is aspect of our times and has an inner and outer component to it – meaning it is a significant evolutionary time for us both personally and globally. Mars is in Scorpio now through October 7 – this is a very good aspect for courage and clarity when facing challenges and can give us the jump start to enter new territory where we may have “feared to tread” up to this point.
Venus squares Mars from the 19th through the end of month which can create friction in relationships – especially as Saturn transits the late degrees of Libra. It is a good time to revisit what we have learned in the relationship sphere over the last couple of years in order to approach the future with more clarity.
The Harvest Full Moon is September 29 at 7 degrees of Aries.

Full Moon in Pisces
“The best reason to shed your old stories, like a snake sheds its skin, is because you cannot ever heal yourself within your story.” Alberto Villoldo
The Moon waxes full Friday August 31 at 8 degrees of Pisces at 9:58 am EDT. The asteroid Chiron is a strong influence at this time. Astrologer Lynda Hill has written that Chiron is associated with the stories we tell ourselves – particularly the stories which keep a static view of the past and lead to a limited sense of the future. Inspired and intuitive perceptions are available now and can come as the result of viewing our lives through a mythic lens as opposed to a more mundane one.
Mars Enters Scorpio
Neptune will oppose the Sun at the time of the Full Moon and there can be a certain nebulous quality to our mundane perceptions now – as if we tumbled down the rabbit hole with Alice – or as if life itself is playing sleight of hand tricks upon us. This influence is transitory.
Jupiter and Expansion
“Jupiter’s craving is to constantly expand the parameters of life beyond the familiar.” Caroline W. Casey
I have a friend – also an astrologer – who once told me that during certain planetary transits “agents of the planet” appear. By this he meant people who embody the energy of the transit or people who bring us information relevant to it.
Under the current Jupiter/Sun sextile I was in touch with a client who seems very Jupiterian. She started an antique shop which has expanded considerably over the years. She looks as if she has a lot of pleasure and optimism (both qualities of Jupiter) in her life as well as a mix of gypsy blood and horse- trader expertise.
We were in touch because she wanted to promote her new online store. She said with assurance, “we are going to launch it in September and the business will keep growing and growing.” This is Jupiter’s expansive realm.
It reminded me that when approaching endeavors, pragmatics, good strategies and planning all have their place but optimism and an expansive orientation are a very valuable component in creating a rewarding outcome.
Jupiter and the Sun
Jupiter, the planet associated with benevloence, abundance and religious teachings is a strong influence in the sky now.
This morning as I paused to watch the electric blue dragonflies glitter as they danced and spun above the water at the Beaver Pond a white pickup truck came down the road and stopped in front of me. The driver was smiling and asked in a conspiratorial tone, “Is this a good place to drop off a turtle?” I nodded my head yes and he jumped out of the pickup.
“I picked him up a minute ago,” he said, retrieving the small painted turtle from the back of his truck. “He was in the middle of the road and I was afraid someone would hit him. ”
He gently placed the turtle on the hill by the water’s edge where it made its way slowly through the way grass.
“Well that’s my good deed for the day,” he said smiling as he drove off.
Good deeds are associated with Jupiter – the application of spiritual teachings. So much of the news we hear these days is about strife and conflict and the inability to resolve problems. It is good to remember the benevolence of Jupiter – that many small deeds like this – too numerous to count- are also enacted every day by individuals who receive no credit or recognition for them. But these small deeds very much contribute to a more thoughtful, more connected, more generous world.
