Wednesday’s Full Moon

“We are as the Aborigines say, just learning how to survive in infinity.” Michael Talbot

At the time of the powerful Full Moon in Scorpio – Wednesday at 3:16 PM EDT the themes of rebirth and regeneration are strong. It is a good time to clearly define and commit or recommit to what is important in your life.

We are in a time frame when life may feel like an initiatory journey – that more is unknown than known. If so commit to what you know and commit to making ongoing, small, pragmatic steps forward. Trust that the rest will be revealed as time unfolds.

There is a beneficent grand trine in water indicating support from spiritual forces in healing issues related to the past.

Talbot quote from Divine Sparks by Karen Speerstra

Venus, Uranus and Pluto

“To love is not a state; it is a direction.” Simone Weil

Venus is coming up to a conjunction to Uranus in Aries – the love at first sight aspect. It will also be squaring Pluto. These aspects symbolize a time when old lovers or lovers from another lifetime may appear or reappear in our lives. Uranus/ Venus relationships are electrifying- surprising and usually have an erratic or unusual quality to them. Venus/Pluto aspects can symbolize a profound and passionate connection in which moderation is key but can be challenging to achieve and maintain.

Once when I was selling air time for a radio station I dropped in at a local nightclub to meet the owner. I was startled when he greeted me at the door – he looked exactly like my much missed ex husband who was living abroad at the time. There was quite the Mercurial energy afoot- he and my ex could have literally been identical twins (and they were both Gemini’s – the sign of twins.)

In the course of our rambling conversation when we were discussing astrology, I told him that it was my birthday. He then excitedly jumped up on a chair and started taking down all the prints from the wall of his office. He handed me an awkwardly stacked bundle of framed artwork with a big smile and from behind a cloud of sheet rock dust and said, “Happy Birthday!”

It turned out that in addition to being a night club owner (as was my ex) he was an inventor. I have always been fascinated by Uranian people who invent things. He was trying to get a patent for his latest product which although I can’t remember exactly what it was, I do remember that it flew.

Some days later he drove out to our house up in the hills and I showed him a neighboring field which would be perfect, he said for a demonstration. On the way home he told me that he was also a poet and that he had brought his most recent book of poetry as a present for me.

The book was entitled, “I Love You Whether You Love Me or Not.” When in trying times- as many people have been experiencing lately under the recent astrological influences- I try to bring to mind the title of his book.

I don’t remember seeing him again after that day.

The Sun Trines Pluto

“maggie and milly and molly and may
went down to the beach (to play one day)

and maggie discovered a shell that sang
so sweetly she couldn’t remember her troubles

milly befriended a stranded star
whose rays five languid fingers were;

molly was chased by a horrible thing
which raced sideways while blowing bubbles:and

may came home with a smooth round stone
as small as a world and as large as alone.

For whatever we lose (like a you or a me)
it’s always ourselves we find in the sea.” ee cummings

If you have been challenged by the ongoing influence of the Cardinal Cross, today’s Sun/Pluto trine in earth provides a good time to start the process of reclaiming courage and power. This is reflected in the Sun’s evolution from the Sabian symbol of 13 degrees of Taurus, ” A porter carrying heavy baggage,” to the one for 14 Taurus, “On the beach, children play while shellfish grope at the edge of the water.” The shellfish symbolize evolution from a creature of the sea (the emotional or psychic realms) to a creature of the land. This speaks of integrating various levels of consciousness. The shellfish and the children are both evolving harmoniously . The idea behind these symbols is to move from the burden of carrying heavy baggage to a place where you can return to a state of innocence – free of worries and problems. Often a quiet place in nature can restore a sense of harmony and interconnectedness. It can help return concerns about the big picture to the basics where pragmatic steps can be taken one at a time and restore a sense of wholeness.

Solar eclipse in Taurus

“We owe most of our great inventions and most of the achievements of genius to idleness – either enforced or chosen.  Agatha Christie

There is an annular solar eclipse this Tuesday April 29 at 8 degrees of Taurus. One of the Sabian symbols associated with this placement is, “A sleigh without snow.”

This image calls to mind the idea the conditions may not right for action and that better timing might exist in the future.  If you are experiencing frustration in your life now it would bode well to break the focus – to let go of the way you are thinking about it – and let innovative and creative solutions arise. Patience is advised.

This is a New Moon Eclipse and opens a new chapter of life for you indicated by the house it falls in.

The Cardinal Cross & the Future

“The Salish tribe of the Pacific Northwest has a term skalaltude which refers to a sacred state of mind when all things are in balance and the spiritual dimension of life seems to predominate consciousness, which results in magic and beauty everywhere. A Jungian analyst might use the term “numinous” to describe this state of mind.” James A Swan

When I was studying the metaphysical meaning of numbers I was taken with the meaning of the One as defined by Pythagoras. Other than being the originator what we now call the Pythagorean Theorem, Pythagoras was a mystic, philosopher and trained in Mystery Schools.

One of the ideas behind the Cardinal Cross (now in effect) concerns duality – or in this case, polarity, involving tradition (Capricorn) and innovation and freedom (Uranus.) It is wise to remember that the alignment of the planets does not just involve the outer world but also has to do with the inner lenses through which we perceive the world as well. A shift in consciousness is being called for both in a personal and planetary sense in order to put the world on a more sustainable, holistic path.
Ancient texts say that an important maxim of the work of Pythagoras was, “Always remember the one,” the underlying unity behind duality.

When old structures crumble, new ones are built in their place. This involves both our inner and outer worlds.

“We are called to be architects of the future, not its victims.” Buckminster Fuller

Cardinal Cross

“The greatest thing in the world is not so much where we stand as in what direction we are moving.” Goethe

One of the Sabian symbols for the Cardinal Cross whose presence is so prominent in the sky now is, “A very old man facing a vast dark space to the northeast.” This symbol is associated with Sirius – the star to which people have looked for guidance and inspiration over centuries when facing uncertainty.

There can be a sense now that situations which may have been brewing for awhile are coming to a head. It is also possible to experience times of increased optimism followed by periods of considerable doubt.

With Pluto opposing Jupiter challenges which arise may be best dealt with by increasing the level of inspiration in your life or by deepening your spiritual practice. With the Uranus /Mars opposition there is a tendency to want to take impulsive action without heeding possible consequences. Sometimes this can involve a much needed break from oppressive circumstances and other times create more problems which could have been avoided through restraint or forethought.
It is wise to keep moderation and spiritual evolution in the picture.

Lunar Eclipse in Aries

“Proceed from the dream outward.” Carl Jung

We are heading into an active eclipse period now – the upcoming lunar eclipse is at 25 degrees of Aries on Tuesday April 15 at 25 degrees of Libra, followed by a solar eclipse in Taurus on April 29. Eclipses are evolutionary in nature and can be felt before as well as after the actual event.

There are very powerful energies at this time and it is wise to consider how you are going to implement them. We are at a crossroad and it is best to clarify what you need to take forward in your life and what needs to be left behind.

There are several significant Sabian symbols for the Lunar eclipse. One is, ‘The sight of an autumn leaf brings to a pilgrim the sudden revelation of the mystery of life and death.” This symbol is a reminder to look for the answers you are seeking in simple, everyday experiences. It is a caution to keep your perspective in the present and seek a deeper meaning rather than drawing on old ideas that have outgrown their usefulness.

Another symbol is, “A man possessed of more gifts than he can hold.” This symbol speaks of the need to clarify what is important to you in your life and to put aside strivings which may have been important once but no longer hold meaning.

Another is, “Through imagination a lost opportunity is regained.” Letting go of an old view of life or of situations and relationships that are not working can feel like a loss but it can also lead to regained strength, courage and renewed opportunities.
It is best to stay out of fear and stay in a place of clarity and deeper knowing.

Venus and Neptune

I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each

I do not think they will sing to me.

I have seen them riding seaward on the waves
Combing the white hair of the waves blown back.
When the wind blows the water white and black.

We have lingered in the chambers of the sea
By sea girls wreathed with seaweed red and brown
Till human voices wake us, and we drown.” TS Eliot

Venus is in Pisces now and approaching a conjunction to Neptune the lord of the sea (widely in influence through the 20th of the month.) The veils between the worlds are thin as a result and this transit provides a good time for the imagination, for creative growth and for spiritual growth. Many of TS Eliot’s significant poems are about his journey towards a higher vision and faith.
This is an unearthly transit and it bodes well to keep safe boundaries in place as a result. One of the Sabian symbols associated with this transit is, “Illuminated by a shaft of light, a large cross lies on rocks surrounded by sea and mist.” An Indian proverb speaks wisely of this – “Call on God, but steer away from the rocks.”

Sabian Symbol and proverb quotes from Lynda Hill’s 360 Degrees of Wisdom

Jupiter Opposes Pluto

“New ways of thinking about familiar things can release new energies and make all manner of things possible.” Charles Handy

One of the gifts of a well done Astrology or Tarot reading is that it can shed light on the quagmires of life, put them in a larger or more meaningful perspective and offer appropriate guidance for dealing with them. So often in life when challenges arise what is needed is a change in perception.

When Jupiter and Pluto are opposed as they are now new challenges can arise and old ones come to a head. What is often called for is a shift or evolution of the underlying philosophy or a deepening of religious or spiritual views.

As the tension of the Cardinal Cross continues to build it is wise to reconsider the underlying philosophy of challenging areas of life – particularly those areas where we habitually invest mental or emotional energy into maintaining an idea or belief system that may have outgrown its usefulness and limits the perception of options.

The Sun Conjuncts Uranus

“Knowing trees, I understand the meaning of patience. Knowing grass I can appreciate persistence.” Hal Boreland

The Sun is conjunct Uranus now (exact on 4/2) squaring Jupiter and Pluto making this a high energy, nervy time when there is a strong tendency to exaggerate and over react. Be sure to provide extra down time to relax and rejuvenate.
A good way to create an outlet for these volatile energies is to look for breakthroughs and actualize new ways of seeing and being.
One of the Sabian symbols associated with these aspects is, “A fire worshipper meditates on the ultimate realities of existence.”
