June’s Full Moon

“Alchemy is concerned with transforming soul life in such a way that one gradually comes to perceive the world not as a collection of objects but as a living, metamorphosing, creating activity.” Robert Sardello

The Moon waxes full at 22 degrees of Sagittarius Friday June 13. The Sagittarius/Gemini axis concerns the balance between the conscious mind – which gathers and analyzes information – and the higher mind -which unites duality through a philosophical or spiritual system. Pythagoras – who was trained in ancient Mystery Schools – was the inventor of what we now call the Pythagorean Theorem. In his teachings about the metaphysical meaning behind numbers he stressed “Always remember the one” – the unity which underlies duality.

At the time of the Full Moon Venus opposes Saturn – making it a good time to think about how we bring our values to life in thoughts, words and actions.
Issues of self worth or self esteem can arise during this time as well as feelings of scarcity. One of the Sabian symbols for this Full Moon is, “A woman airing an old bag through a window to give it light and sunshine.” It is best to focus on progress and future endeavors and to seek innovative solutions rather than resorting to old programming of the past.

Mars is forming a T-Square by opposing Uranus and squaring Pluto. These forces can contribute to the likelihood of increased volatility and impulsiveness and with Mercury retrograde it is best to avoid rushing, provide extra time when traveling, be extra clear with communications and double check if snafus arise rather than jumping to conclusions.

One of the other Sabian symbols for this Full Moon is, “Brightly clad nature spirits dancing in the warm dying light,” reminding us of the invisible mystery and magic of life which always surrounds us.

Sabian symbols references from Lynda Hill’s 360 Degrees of Wisdom, Robert Sardello quote from Speech of the Grail by Linda Sussman

More on Mercury Retrograde

“In music the spaces between the notes are often as important as the notes themselves.” Andrew Smith

Astrologer and author Andrew Smith has noted that this Mercury retrograde period (through July 1) is a good time to reflect on the feelings that underlie our habitual thought patterns – as emotion fires the thoughts into form.

For instance when trying to achieve a certain goal is the underlying feeling one of self confidence in your ability to does it get mired with doubt or uncertainty?
These doubts may have originated with sources outside of yourself – such as religious, cultural or ancestral beliefs that you assumed to be true at one time.

In an increasing fast paced and consumer oriented world with a strong external focus – Smith continues – it is wise to take this period as a time of thoughtful reflection on your inner world – and how you support or undermine your thoughts and endeavors with underlying feelings.

Mercury Stations Retrograde Saturday

“Soul is where the fires of our passions burn. It is where our love is most alive. The soul longs for this deeper love, for a connection between form and formlessness, for a continuum between the earth and the divine.” Benjamin Shield

Mercury stations retrograde Saturday June 7 at 3 degrees of Cancer. The retrograde period extends through July 1. During this time Mercury will move through the very early degrees of Cancer and the late degrees of Gemini indicating an opportunity to revisit, challenge and update limited influences, thought patterns and belief systems often carried forward unconsciously or in the form of assumptions from the past- from family, culture and ancestry.

The transit through Gemini will offer new ideas and perceptions. Pay attention to these – particularly those that lead in a new direction or build a bridge between your passion for life and the future. It is a time frame to entertain a variety of ideas – putting the chosen ones into action in July.

Many mystical traditions believe that we see our destiny – or life’s purpose -most clearly as young children. Passion and vision help us remain inspired and determined on the path.

Over time though the buffeting influence of life experience and the remembrance of karma may cloud the vision causing us to feel lost or confused.

At the time that Mercury will station Venus will trine Pluto in the earth element – the element of manifestation. Use this retrograde period to envision a path to bring your passion for life into new forms in the present.

Much of the shake-up that has been occurring astrologically offers an opportunity to grow in a direction of increased personal authenticity.

Mercury Prepares to Station Retrograde

“Any major Dude with half a heart surely will tell you my friend
Any minor world that breaks apart falls together again
When the demon is at your door
In the morning it won’t be there no more
Any major Dude will tell you.” Steely Dan

Astrologer and shamanic teacher Lena Stevens has written that May has been a month of integration. She went on to say that it could easily feel as if you had emptied out the contents of your closet and they were in a big pile in the middle of the floor. The next step involves sorting through – to see what is appropriate for your life moving forward and what needs to be left behind. With the amount of change many people are experiencing- both inner and outer- this image provides a good way to view the influence of recent astrological activity.
With Venus in Taurus it is wise to value and appreciate yourself and what you have created as a starting point.
Mercury will turn retrograde Saturday June 7 and will travel in retrograde mode until July 1. The usual caveats apply – leave extra time when traveling, double check the details on any legal agreements and make an extra effort to keep communications clear – double checking when snafus arise. It is a good to rethink and review.
In July a number of planets will be moving direct – offering a time of increased clarity.

Mars and the Cardinal Cross

“Through application comes awareness.” Edgar Cayce

Mars is moving direct now after a retrograde period which began March 2. Recently while in retro mode, Mars incited the powerful influence of Cardinal Cross making this (among other things) an initiatory time about the use of power and energy. In direct motion now Mars will aspect each of the Cardinal Cross planets again- as if for another round of lesson learning in this area.

It is wise to reconsider how you use energy and power in your life. The time is ripe for realizations in this area – particularly realizations that come through encountering challenges.

Commit to any desired changes and innovations and implement new approaches slowly, consistently and methodically. Strengthen your resolve and anticipate challenges and the requisite courage to meet them.

Mars Stations Direct

“The winds and waves are always on the side of the ablest navigators.” Edward Gibbon

Mars will station direct Monday May 19 at 9 degrees of Libra. The Sabian symbol for this degree is, “A canoe is approaching safety through dangerous waters.” Mars has been retrograde since March 1 and this time frame has provided a good window to review how we envision and implement personal power – often through encountering challenging situations. As Mars prepares to move forward and engage the energy of the Cardinal Cross again it bodes well to clarify any lessons learned and prepare to move forward in a clear, focused and dynamic way next week.

Wednesday’s Full Moon

“We are as the Aborigines say, just learning how to survive in infinity.” Michael Talbot

At the time of the powerful Full Moon in Scorpio – Wednesday at 3:16 PM EDT the themes of rebirth and regeneration are strong. It is a good time to clearly define and commit or recommit to what is important in your life.

We are in a time frame when life may feel like an initiatory journey – that more is unknown than known. If so commit to what you know and commit to making ongoing, small, pragmatic steps forward. Trust that the rest will be revealed as time unfolds.

There is a beneficent grand trine in water indicating support from spiritual forces in healing issues related to the past.

Talbot quote from Divine Sparks by Karen Speerstra

Venus, Uranus and Pluto

“To love is not a state; it is a direction.” Simone Weil

Venus is coming up to a conjunction to Uranus in Aries – the love at first sight aspect. It will also be squaring Pluto. These aspects symbolize a time when old lovers or lovers from another lifetime may appear or reappear in our lives. Uranus/ Venus relationships are electrifying- surprising and usually have an erratic or unusual quality to them. Venus/Pluto aspects can symbolize a profound and passionate connection in which moderation is key but can be challenging to achieve and maintain.

Once when I was selling air time for a radio station I dropped in at a local nightclub to meet the owner. I was startled when he greeted me at the door – he looked exactly like my much missed ex husband who was living abroad at the time. There was quite the Mercurial energy afoot- he and my ex could have literally been identical twins (and they were both Gemini’s – the sign of twins.)

In the course of our rambling conversation when we were discussing astrology, I told him that it was my birthday. He then excitedly jumped up on a chair and started taking down all the prints from the wall of his office. He handed me an awkwardly stacked bundle of framed artwork with a big smile and from behind a cloud of sheet rock dust and said, “Happy Birthday!”

It turned out that in addition to being a night club owner (as was my ex) he was an inventor. I have always been fascinated by Uranian people who invent things. He was trying to get a patent for his latest product which although I can’t remember exactly what it was, I do remember that it flew.

Some days later he drove out to our house up in the hills and I showed him a neighboring field which would be perfect, he said for a demonstration. On the way home he told me that he was also a poet and that he had brought his most recent book of poetry as a present for me.

The book was entitled, “I Love You Whether You Love Me or Not.” When in trying times- as many people have been experiencing lately under the recent astrological influences- I try to bring to mind the title of his book.

I don’t remember seeing him again after that day.

The Sun Trines Pluto

“maggie and milly and molly and may
went down to the beach (to play one day)

and maggie discovered a shell that sang
so sweetly she couldn’t remember her troubles

milly befriended a stranded star
whose rays five languid fingers were;

molly was chased by a horrible thing
which raced sideways while blowing bubbles:and

may came home with a smooth round stone
as small as a world and as large as alone.

For whatever we lose (like a you or a me)
it’s always ourselves we find in the sea.” ee cummings

If you have been challenged by the ongoing influence of the Cardinal Cross, today’s Sun/Pluto trine in earth provides a good time to start the process of reclaiming courage and power. This is reflected in the Sun’s evolution from the Sabian symbol of 13 degrees of Taurus, ” A porter carrying heavy baggage,” to the one for 14 Taurus, “On the beach, children play while shellfish grope at the edge of the water.” The shellfish symbolize evolution from a creature of the sea (the emotional or psychic realms) to a creature of the land. This speaks of integrating various levels of consciousness. The shellfish and the children are both evolving harmoniously . The idea behind these symbols is to move from the burden of carrying heavy baggage to a place where you can return to a state of innocence – free of worries and problems. Often a quiet place in nature can restore a sense of harmony and interconnectedness. It can help return concerns about the big picture to the basics where pragmatic steps can be taken one at a time and restore a sense of wholeness.

Solar eclipse in Taurus

“We owe most of our great inventions and most of the achievements of genius to idleness – either enforced or chosen.  Agatha Christie

There is an annular solar eclipse this Tuesday April 29 at 8 degrees of Taurus. One of the Sabian symbols associated with this placement is, “A sleigh without snow.”

This image calls to mind the idea the conditions may not right for action and that better timing might exist in the future.  If you are experiencing frustration in your life now it would bode well to break the focus – to let go of the way you are thinking about it – and let innovative and creative solutions arise. Patience is advised.

This is a New Moon Eclipse and opens a new chapter of life for you indicated by the house it falls in.
