January 2013 Astrology

“May the New Year bring you closer and closer to the realization of your dreams. Never give them up, even in moments of tragedy. They are your pathway to the experience of Oneness with the Infinite. They – and they alone – will bring you the freedom that we all seek, when a moment can become the awareness of eternity, and the realization can bring forth an outpouring of compassion for all.”
Rob Merriman, Financial Astrologer

The aspects of January 2013 have a lot to teach about the challenges inherent in bringing dreams into manifestation. Mercury the planet of ideas and communication is a strong force in the sky throughout the month. It is a good month to practice patience, choose words carefully and exercise diplomacy.

As the month begins pay attention ideas that present innovative solutions to situations in need of resolution. It is a good time to be aware of information that enters your life through channels you may not normally pay attention to. Do not expect pragmatic applications to appear initially.

It is wise to be clear about intentions by the 11th the day of the New Moon at 21 Capricorn.

On the 6th Mercury moves up to a conjunction to Pluto. The ongoing Uranus/Pluto square – the sign of our times – is about the transformation of outdated forms and the coming to life of more innovative, enlightened ones. How we think about our lives and our world may have changed considerably over the past few years as this aspect functions now as it did in the 60s – as an awakener to higher consciousness.

The Mercury/Pluto aspect provides good timing to get under the radar in situations where perceptions can normally be blocked. It can be a time of powerful thinking and communication but it can contribute to irritability and harsh communications. It’s best to have strong boundaries all month long and not be surprised if communications become testy.

Venus moves up to a harmonious aspect to Neptune exact on the 10th. This is a good time for getting in touch with our higher aspirations in order to move more closely in that direction. Do not demand pragmatic applications initially.

Through the 16th pay attention to information which comes about making any romantic, creative or financial goals real. It may be a bumpy time and it is best to maintain equilibrium through the transition rather than assuming all the information is in at any one point. We are living in a time when the old models no longer work and it can feel like a bit of a balancing act forging the path to a more innovative future.

From the 13th to the 21st Venus in Capricorn will aspect Saturn. This influence can bring a stabilizing force and help ground ideas and dreams pragmatically.

The Sun moves into Aquarius on the 19th.

Towards the end of the month Mercury engages the influence of Jupiter and Uranus- bringing a sense of expansion and optimism. Saturn’s influence at the end of the month can help with pragmatics and planning.

The Full Moon is on 1/26 at 7 degrees of Leo.

Full Moon in Cancer

“Last night as I lay sleeping,
I dreamt -marvellous error!-
that I had a beehive
here inside my heart.
And the golden bees
were making white combs
and sweet honey
from all my old failures.” Antonio Machado

The Moon waxes full Friday December 28 at 7 degrees of Cancer. It is a good time to review commitments (of all kinds) in order to move in a direction of increased personal authenticity. It also bodes well under this influence to rewrite or reinterpret the story of your life from a more empowered perspective. It is as if we are at an important crossroad where the past must be left behind in order to perceive the clear horizons ahead.

Winter Solstice 2012

“You are not the oil, you are not the air – merely the point of combustion, the flash point where the light is born.” Dag Hammarskjold

The Sun enters Capricorn Friday December 21 marking the time of the Winter Solstice. For centuries people have gathered around the fire at this time to call back the light.

Calling back the light is a good symbol for our times.

Many astrologers believe the Winter Solstice this year marks the beginning of a new age – the Age of Aquarius- in which the m.o. on the earth plane will start to evolve away from from fear and greed into love. Energetically we are all part of this change or the resistance to it.

In the chart for the Solstice the Sun is conjunct Juno the asteroid of commitment and Pluto the asteroid of transformation and change. It bodes well as intentions and commitments are set for the upcoming year to keep our aspirations high for the evolution of the earth in a more holistic, healthy direction.

“Nature is our infrastructure.” Robert F Kennedy Jr.

New Moon in Sag

“Whose worldviews shape our own values and belief systems? Whose history and judgements do we live by? These are critical questions thinking people must ask themselves again and again as they move through life.”*

Today is the powerful New Moon at 21 degrees of Sagittarius – the sign which governs philosophy. We stand on the threshold of a new age and much has been revealed about the insufficient underpinnings of the traditional worldviews of our time. The New Moon in Sag today is squaring the asteroid of justice and advocacy indicating a good time to question and upgrade – if necessary – our hopes and visions for the future in a more holistic, authentic direction.

“Never, ever, for the sake of peace and quiet deny your own experience.” Dag Hammerskjold

Uranus Stations Direct

“Redeem
The time. Redeem
The unread vision in the higher dream
While jeweled unicorns draw by the gilded hearse.” TS Eliot*

Uranus stations direct Thursday 12/13, the day of the New Moon in Sagittarius. There is a profoundly karmic aspect to this time with Venus conjunct the North Node in Scorpio. It is a good time to set intentions related to the evolution of our soul’s journey. One of the Sabian symbols associated with the Uranus station is,” A White Triangle is seen – it has golden wings.”*

Look to the house of your chart to see where this New Moon is falling. This is the area of life which is being recharged and revitalized with a higher perception that can open the door to new opportunities.

Events which occur around this time will contain a message about how we need to be living going forward. Uranus is the planet of the future and is a strong influence in the sky at this time in history.

Mercury Aspects this Week

“Soul loves the journey itself. The textures and undulations of the path it has made through the landscape by hazard and design are nourishing in themselves.” David Whyte*

If you are looking for a breakthrough heed any messages that may come (for the next week or so) through intuition, imagination or spiritual guidance – especially those which pertain to an evolved (and thus freeing) perception of an old wound. Uranus will station on the New Moon Thursday while making a harmonious trine to Mercury- indicating breakthroughs may come through the use of the Higher Mind.

Last Quarter Moon

“The universe is evolving towards an even greater destiny and we are the means of this global transformation.” Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan*

Today is the Last Quarter Moon at 14 degrees of Virgo EDT. It is as if we are standing in a train station – readying to go forward and needing to be absolutely clear about what we are taking and what we are leaving behind – especially as regards the way we think about things. We are heading towards a very potent New Moon on 12/13 – a good time for intention setting. Use the time until then to identify old attitudes and assumptions that need to be left behind so that there is a clear unfettered horizon ahead.

Mercury opposes Sedna

In Inuit mythology Sedna as young women was thrown overboard into the sea by her father as punishment for something she had done- no one could remember what. Her body became nourishment for the creatures of the sea and years later when fishing boats returned to shore with great bounty, the Intuits believed it was due to the blessings of the sea goddess Sedna.

Sedna, the asteroid in Astrology, is a bit like Pluto – governing profound transformation. This week as Mercury opposes Sedna is a good time to reclaim courage which was lost through the influence or disapproval of others – be they familial, political, religious or cultural. The lost power may also be of an ancestral or karmic nature – issues inherited through the bloodlines or issues that have been worked on through different lifetimes.

This reclamation process can help us to live more authentic, empowered lives. It can also create new ideas and thus lead to increased opportunity, growth and expansion.

December 2012 Astrology

“Revelation means getting a peek at the reality that is always there.” Martin Bell*

The word “apocalypse” when applied to the 2012 prophesies has been co- opted and misinterpreted. The spiritual meaning of the word is that – what was once hidden is now revealed.

We have been seeing in the public sphere the revelation of hidden things and if we look closely enough may be able to perceive this kind of activity in our own our individual lives. As with the Sixties when Uranus and Pluto were last together in a powerful alignment, personal is once again political and we see our lives intricately connected to others on the planet through a series events which reveal what was hidden, denied or misrepresented.

December 2012 Astrology continues this procession of events and revelations both personally and politically as we make our way through the darkness to the rebirth of the Light on the Winter Solstice – December 21.

There is an ancient Solstice ritual observed by some spiritual traditions called the Spiral Walk – in which a lighted candle is placed in the center of a spiral constructed of pine boughs. Each individual, candle in hand walks the spiral path to its center, lights their candle and walks the spiral path outward, placing their lighted candle near the others at the end path. This beautiful ritual is a powerful symbol for the meaning of the Winter Solstice – that there is an inner journey we each make this time of year through the darkness to rekindle our own inner flame in order to make it manifest in the outer world through our actions.

The 2012 prophesies and the “Dawning of the Age of Aquarius” are both correlated to the Winter Solstice of 2012 and the opportunity for humanity to evolve in a more enlightened direction. There is resistance to this process as an outdated order falls apart and a new one takes root.

December Transits :

The Sun forms an opposition to Jupiter on the 2nd. This aspect is good for the growth of spiritual knowledge. It can be prone to dogma, self righteousness and exaggeration. Moderation is key.
Mercury moves up to a square with Neptune (the 11th through the 17th) This can be a time when communications can be confusing and information can be misinterpreted or misrepresented. Make more of an effort to keep communications clear. Double check the details on any important agreements made at this time.

There is a very powerful New Moon (an excellent time for setting very clear intentions) on December 13 at 21 degrees of Sagittarius. Uranus stations direct at this time. It is not necessary to know how you are going to accomplish your goals at this time – set the intention and the wind will be at your back. Uranus is the planet of the future and of innovation. With its influence events happen in sudden, unexpected and synchronistic ways. It is not necessary to know all the details of how you will make your intentions manifest. Just fire them with determination at this time and looks for signs of affirmation along the way.

The Winter Solstice when the Sun enters Capricorn and the Uranus/Pluto square, is Dec 21.

The Full Moon is December 28 at 7 degrees of Cancer- also involved in the powerful transformative Pluto/Uranus configuration – the sign of our times.

This time period through 2021 is a time of evolution and revolution. The old order is in the process of dying as the new one is being born.

Lunar Eclipse in Gemini

“If there is magic on this planet it is contained in water.” Loren Eiseley

This week’s Lunar Eclipse is Wednesday 11/28 EDT at 6 degrees of Gemini. Although some astrologers are concerned that it could indicate the ramping up of hostilities, other aspects speak about the importance of intention and the powers of higher consciousness. The Sabian symbol for the degree of the eclipse is, “An old fashioned well with the purest and coldest of waters.” This symbol speaks about the gifts – on many levels – of a pristine environment. Since ancient times people have made pilgrimages to sites and shrines said to contain healing waters in order to attain spiritual rebirth. The Uranus/Pluto influence encourages us to look at the future of our life on the planet in an enlightened, collaborative way – particularly as regards the preservation and use of natural resources and to be wary of the views of “authorities”. The symbol for Mercury, ruler of communication is,” A parrot listening and then talking repeats a conversation he has overheard.” The symbol for Mars/Pluto conjunction (which is inclined to the overuse of force) is, “An angel comes carrying a harp” reminding of us that the use of higher consciousness in resolving conflict is always an alternative.
