Mars in Sagittarius

“Once we understand the math of evolution we will understand the aftermath as well.” Swami Beyondanada

Through late October take advantage of the increase in fiery energy as Mars trines Uranus in Aries. But do be aware that tempers can more easily flare, discussions can become more heated and impulsive acts may be on the rise with this influence. It is best to remain calm and open minded rather than engaging in conflict or defending fixed positions. Exercise caution when driving or traveling and avoid rushing. When proactively handled there is a brilliance to this aspect which can help move stagnant energy with sudden moments of insight and innovative approaches.

Saturn in Scorpio

This morning I was thinking about one of my favorite children’s stories – The Nightgown of the Sullen Moon by Nancy Willard. In it the Moon on her nightly journey looks down from the sky and sees a beautiful nightgown hanging on a clothesline in someone’s yard. She becomes jealous and wants it for herself. She goes shopping to try to find one and is rude and impatient to the salespeople who try to help along the way.

Saturn just entered the sign of Scorpio and Scorpio can be moody like the Moon – and can be jealous. Saturn in Scorpio (roughly 2 ½ years) provides a good time to visit these dark, moody corners of our lives where jealousy and resentment can fester to see if we are needlessly holding on to attitudes there that are preventing growth. The higher side of Scorpio is represented by the phoenix rising from the ashes – symbolizing the ability to bring light to dark realms and to effect powerful transformation.

October ’12 Astrology

“Without our dreams we would not be able to step outside ourselves and transcend our limitations.” Diane Mariechlid

The Michelmas daisies are in bloom in New England now. These tiny purple and white flowers bloom near the time of the Fall Equinox and the time of Michelmas- the feast day of the archangel Michael who inspires courage. It was he who inspired the brave peasant George- against great odds – to fight and slay a fearsome dragon. With the decrease of the light from the Autumn Equinox to the rebirth of light at the Winter Solstice, this festival reminds us to cultivate courage as we face inner and outer darkness.

Throughout this month moderation in thought, word and deed is indicated as there are complicated influences.

In early October both Venus and Mercury will be aspecting Saturn in a harmonious way. This bodes well for pragmatic thinking and serious conversation related to relationship and financial goals.

Through the 8th Venus will also be forming an opposition to Neptune – meaning it bodes well to keep personal boundaries strong and avoid extremes of high hopes or disillusionment. Illusion and reality might be more easily confused under this aspect. It is wise to avoid the use of addictive substances during this time as well as their influence is stronger and more likely than usual to blur perceptions.

Mars will be entering Sagittarius on the 7th forming a square Neptune while trining Uranus. Guard against impulsive behavior and use extra caution when traveling.

On the 16th Venus squares Jupiter – this can be a fun time – adding  hope and optimism – just guard against the tendency to excess.

The Sun enters Scorpio on the 22nd strengthening the influence of Saturn and Neptune. This part of the month bodes well for accessing inspiration and guidance and applying it pragmatically.

The Moon will wax full this month on the 29th at 6 degrees of Taurus. A Mercury /Neptune square shortly follows – meaning that thinking and communication may be more blurry due to Neptune’s influence. This part of the month is tricky also as Mercury slows down to make its retrograde station on Election Day in the US.

The influence of the Saturn/Neptune trine and the Mars/Uranus trine this month are about having the energy and passion to work to make dreams real – while being willing to cultivate courage and work through problems that arise. Perseverance and a balanced perspective are key.

Aries Full Moon / Weekend Astrology

“The bad news is, there is no key to the Universe. The good news is, it has been left unlocked.” Swami Beyondananda
One time a vet offered me some excellent advice about keeping my dog safe from being quilled by a porcupine. He said,” Keep him in two nights before and two nights after the Full Moon.” The vet was aware of the old adage, “Full Moons are two days coming and two days going.” Saturday’s Full Moon at 7 degrees of Aries is no exception. The dynamic energies at this time can lead to breakthroughs in blocked areas as well as moments of illumination and heightened awareness. Volatility is also part of the mix and it’s best to avoid or disengage from conflict as deep emotions can more easily be triggered. It’s also wise to guard against erratic and impulsive behavior.

Autumn Equinox

The Autumn Equinox is Saturday 9/22  when the Sun enters Libra at 3:41 pm EDT. At this time the Sun will oppose the Aries point (a  powerful point of beginnings) and enter into  the Pluto/Uranus square – which Mercury did this week. One of the Sabian  symbols associated with this is, “Light breaking into many colors as it passes through a prism.” It is best to stay open to the meaning of events as they occur as it is likely that their ultimate meaning (where they are leading) will be more accurately ascertained through hindsight.
Sabian Symbol reference from Lynda Hill’s 360 Degrees of Wisdom.

Mercury in Libra

Mercury the planet of thought and communication is now in Libra and entering the Pluto/Uranus square. This week provides excellent timing to identify habitual thought patterns that inhibit growth and commit to a more expansive orientation. This will lead to increased opportunities and an awakened sense of abundance. One of the Sabian symbols involved in Mercury’s journey is, ” A man on a magic carpet  observes vast vistas below” – a reminder of the importance of perspective.

New Moon in Virgo

“The moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help that would never otherwise have occurred…Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.” Goethe

The New Moon falls Saturday September 15 at 10:11 pm EDT at 23 degrees of Virgo. The New Moon is a good time to hit the reset button and start anew with clear intentions. One of the Sabian symbols associated with this degree is “A lion tamer rushes fearlessly into the circus arena,” a reminder of the significant  role courage plays in creating successful outcomes.

Uranus squares Pluto

Astrologer and author Melanie Reinhart has described the planet Pluto as the “guardian of the sacred oaths of the soul.” Pluto is strong in the sky now as is Uranus – making this a good time to be aware of insights that reveal how to live more authentically and in closer alignment with our life purpose.

Quote by Melanie Reinhart excerpted from an interview with Eric Francis on Planet Waves.

September ’12 Astrology

“We live in a time when the greatest form of courage is to act as if our lives made a difference.” William Sullivan

August provided a bit of relief from the more dynamic transits but come mid September we will be feeling their influence once again. Much of the month concerns transformation and it is a powerful time to harness that energy to effect positive change in our lives.

The first part of the month – before the New Moon on the 15th – take some time to review progress with plans and goals. When the 15th comes clarify intentions for the way forward. Pay particular attention shedding attitudes, assumptions and belief systems that no longer serve you.

September starts off as Mercury aspects Neptune making it an excellent time for creative visualization, meditation and creativity. This aspect can cloud linear thinking and communications though (Neptune rules fog) so it is best, if possible, to avoid making serious decisions, signing legal agreements or making major purchases until after the 5th.

Through the 8th Venus squares Saturn. Under this influence concerns about finances can arise as well as issues related to self esteem. It is best to view these areas of life as in need of transformation and work on envisioning an improved path forward.

The Sun and Mercury will square Jupiter from the 5- the 11th. This can make it an overly active time for communication and thinking. Providing some down time for a quiet walk in nature or some restorative activities would be beneficial.

Midmonth things are likely to heat up as Pluto stations direct on the 18th and the Pluto /Uranus square is exact on the 19th – with the Sun and Mercury involved in a dynamic square. The Pluto/Uranus transit is aspect of our times and has an inner and outer component to it – meaning it is a significant evolutionary time for us both personally and globally. Mars is in Scorpio now through October 7 – this is a very good aspect for courage and clarity when facing challenges and can give us the jump start to enter new territory where we may have “feared to tread” up to this point.

Venus squares Mars from the 19th through the end of month which can create friction in relationships – especially as Saturn transits the late degrees of Libra. It is a good time to revisit what we have learned in the relationship sphere over the last couple of years in order to approach the future with more clarity.

The Harvest Full Moon is September 29 at 7 degrees of Aries.

Full Moon in Pisces

“The best reason to shed your old stories, like a snake sheds its skin, is because you cannot ever heal yourself within your story.” Alberto Villoldo

The Moon waxes full Friday August 31 at 8 degrees of Pisces at 9:58 am EDT. The asteroid Chiron is a strong influence at this time. Astrologer Lynda Hill has written that Chiron is associated with the stories we tell ourselves – particularly the stories which keep a static view of the past and lead to a limited sense of the future. Inspired and intuitive perceptions are available now and can come as the result of viewing our lives through a mythic lens as opposed to a more mundane one.
