Monday’s Full Moon in Pisces

Monday’s Full Moon is at 16 degrees of Pisces and one of the Sabian symbols associated with this degree is, ” In a quiet moment, a creative individual experiences the flow of inspiration.”

For many people the past few weeks have been a trying time in terms of the need to face challenges and overcome obstacles. With Pluto’s trine to the Sun it is now a good time for regeneration and reclaiming lost strength and vitality. Pluto’s influence bodes well for physical strength and renewed courage.

The Full Moon is conjunct Chiron – the asteroid of the Wounded Healer. Much healing can occur at this time through accessing a higher, more inspired level of perception. A greater level of wholeness can be attained through the healing of fragmented parts of the self.

More on the New Moon

David Tresemer – astrosopher and author of The Venus Eclipse of the Sun 2012 has designed an oracle based on the ancient myths of Persia. The oracle is similar in some ways to the Sabian symbols. The degree for the time in which we live is, “Magical implements for the use of good or ill.” and it refers to the development of tools throughout different times in history and how they affect the evolution of humanity. In our time it refers to the use of technology.

Uranus governs things ahead of their time. It governs electronics and technologies which come into widespread use without the time to consider the consequences or the time to put appropriate legal protections in place. Cyber technologies and nuclear power come under this heading.

Because Uranus is conjunct the South Node on the Descendant at the time of the New Moon, it provides good timing to assess your personal use of these devices – how much time , energy and power you give this kind of activity, whether it enhances your life or whether a better balance could be struck.

New Moon in Virgo

One of my favorite images for describing certain transits in astrology is this – it is like a train pulling into the station – some people get off the train – leave your life – and some new people enter it. The powerful upcoming New Moon in Virgo on Monday 8/25 EDT fits nicely with this image.

Because the Nodes – which are related to life purpose and destiny – are conjunct the axis of self and others- it creates a very good time for clear self definition in the present- who you are and how you define your life purpose. It is also a time to clarify which relationship dynamics – including how you relate to yourself as well as how you relate to others- you need to let go of. There will be significant assistance from planetary forces for initiatives like this at this time.

Old relationships may end, new ones – of a karmic nature- may appear or reappear suddenly. Consider and commit to the use of appropriate boundaries for any interactions based on the new definition of self. Be wary of getting involved in habitual behaviors which have been shown to lead down the wrong paths.
It is a time for the affirmation or reaffirmation of your whole self. Commit to the process of moving in a more holistic direction- giving equal weight to the realms of body, mind and spirit. Also commit to the discipline and work that is necessary – both short and long term – to implement your goals.

Because of the Nodal placements this New Moon is more like an eclipse – an evolutionary threshold which is best approached with a lot of consciousness.

Mars Conjuncts Saturn

I have a friend who raises working dogs and one of the terms she uses to describe border collies -who can be very focused, driven and energized when herding sheep – is “geared”. “They are geared,” she says. As Mars moves closer to the conjunction with Saturn (in effect from 8/17 – 9/5) feeling “geared” may be a more common occurrence. There is a tendency with this aspect to overwork. There can also be a fair amount of frustration. Mars /Saturn aspects are sometimes described as “driving with the brakes on.”

This is an ambitious placement and people who have it in their natal charts are usually very hard workers. A lot can be accomplished under this influence with clear goals. But there can be snags along the way. Repressed feelings – often related to frustration or lack of empowerment – can arise and result in hostile and sometimes cruel behavior towards others.

This weekend’s T-Square

This weekend provides a good time to review areas of life where you have a tendency to take strong positions. These beliefs or fixed assumptions may have been helpful in the past in getting through various challenges but now could be limiting growth or opportunities.

Planetary Activity

It is a time of increased astrological activity with many recent changes – among them Jupiter moving into Leo and squaring Mars. Watch for over doing and overindulging. There is a tendency to get caught up in rigid positions but a wise use of the energy is to stay in the present – don’t get too ahead of yourself- and exercise moderation in your thoughts and actions. Although it may easily feel like a time to overdo, energy will be better spent proceeding slowly and consciously keeping discipline, perseverance and the long term in mind.

New Moon in Leo

Recently I was reading about a psychological study often referred to as the gorilla-on- the- basketball -court study. Psychologists asked a group of subjects to count the number of times the ball bounced during a basketball game. The subjects were Type A personalities – concerned with accuracy and completing their tasks with success.

During the course of the game a person dressed in a gorilla costume went out onto the court, wandered around a bit and then left. When the game was over the psychologists asked the subjects -“how many bounces did you count ?” And then they asked, “What did you think about the gorilla?”

This experiment has been performed many times and each time the participants responded, “What gorilla?”

One thing this study talks about is the power of focus and concentration. It is also about broad perception and the things – magical things – for example like synchronicities or surprising events that can cause a sudden shift in consciousness – that can be missed when the focus is too narrow.

This weekend with Saturday’s New Moon at 3 degrees of Leo is a good time to explore the myriad directions that you would like to pursue in your life – the kind of possibilities that you do not normally entertain while counting the bounces. Look at the way you have been navigating your life’s journey up to this point and acknowledge progress. Chiron, Uranus and Pluto

I have a favorite place to visit. It is a hidden pond up in the hills. When first there I settle in by the water’s edge and watch the busyness above and below the surface – the baby turtles sunning themselves on the rocks, the tadpoles darting about among the reeds in the dark murky water, the blue heron, staring into the depths in search of his dinner. I look for the beaver’s often invisible presence by tracking the trail of bubbles which arise in the wake of their underwater journeys. Sometimes at dawn or dusk the silence is broken by a loud crack of a beaver tail hitting the surface. Playful otters roll and cavort through the water there too. They enter and leave the pond through mysterious underground waterways.

One day as I sat by the pond I was startled by a question of a passerby which broke the silence. “I see you here often” she said. “Are you looking for something you lost in the water?” I shook my head no, and smiled.

But maybe I was. Chiron, the asteroid of the Wounded Healer is in the watery sign of Pisces and the woman’s question had touched on something I had not considered – how healing it can be to sit quietly by the pond’s edge, to wonder at its mystery and hidden life below the surface. And perhaps my time spent looking into the water was in search of something I had lost – a sense of the magical interconnectedness of all life which is so often overlooked in our busy, modern world.
We are at a powerful threshold astrologically this week. With clarity and intention personal evolutionary leaps are possible. It bodes well to visit a special place in nature and to do things that are healing and restore a sense of wholeness, Chiron’s gift.
