March 2013 Astrology

“The alchemists held that the divine faculty possessed by man was his imagination, and their theory seems to be that if the imagination was sufficiently well disciplined and concentrated it would produce amazing results.”
Juliet Sharman Burke

The alchemists were not alone in their idea of the importance of the imagination.Throughout history this idea has been the foundation of many magical traditions. Albert Einstein who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921 was famously quoted as saying , “Imagination is more important than knowledge.”
Th alchemist’s work involved the process of purification and transformation. Calcination – when matter was heated until it was reduced to ash – was an important part of the process.
The ongoing Pluto Saturn sextile throughout the month frees up energy for transforming the parts of our inner lives that have over time become calcified – crystallized in a way which inhibits growth and evolution. These calcified areas can be emotional, spiritual, mental and physical and involve beliefs that have become rigid over time. The beliefs may have been helpful as defense mechanisms at one time but inhibit growth in the present.
In the first half of March it bodes well to broaden horizons with the imagination and work on expanding views which have become rigid and limited. The second half of the month when Mercury stations and starts to move direct and many of the faster moving planets engage the Pluto/Uranus square will be an action oriented, volatile time.Work imaginatively on visions and intentions which will be clear by mid month and implement them after the 18th when the dynamic, action oriented energy of Mars is strong.
Transits throughout the month:
Through the 13th – Venus squares Jupiter – this is an aspect of good times. It bodes well for activity that bring happiness and pleasure into our lives. It can be an optimistic time. Avoid overspending and excess in general.
The Saturn/Pluto sextile is in effect all month. This provides good timing for financial work and plans. Review how you create financial abundance in your life seeking areas that are in need of improvement. Review investments and how money is spent. Use your imagination to create opportunities.
On the 12th Mars enters his home sign of Aries aspecting Uranus and Pluto. This will usher in a time of more energy but a volatile time as well. Throughout the month guard against impulsive behavior on your part and the part of others as this can be an accident prone time when too much haste, rushing or irritability clouds the thinking. Sudden, surprising events are known occur with this aspect and it bodes well to fortify the nervous system and provide extra down time for regeneration all month long.
On the 17th Mercury stations direct.
The Sun moves into Aries on the Vernal Equinox March 20. The Sun and Moon both engage the Pluto/Uranus square which symbolizes the powerful, transformational nature of our times.
From the 22nd through the end of the month Venus moves up to a conjunction with Uranus in Aries. This is the love-at-first-sight aspect. Surprising things can happen under this high voltage aspect.
The Full Moon is on the 27th at 6 Libra.

Monday’s Full Moon

One of the Sabian Symbols associated with Monday’s Full Moon in Virgo is “A Woman Drawing Aside Two Dark Curtains That Closed The Entrance To A Sacred Pathway.” For the next several weeks it bodes well to heed any intuitive information related to improving the way you direct energy (mental, spiritual & physical) as you move forward in your life. The asteroid Chiron, whose symbol is a key, is strong at the time of the Full Moon. The North Node which governs our life purpose and groups associated with it is powerful now also indicating there is guidance that can unlock inner doors, free up energy and put us more clearly on our life path. Time spent quietly in meditation or musing will be valuable – efforts to push too hard in the outer realms are likely to be frustrated.

Mercury Stations Retrograde

Mercury stations retrograde Saturday 2/23 EST at 19 degrees of Pisces and will be in retrograde mode through 3/17. This retrograde period is more powerful due to its proximity to the upcoming Full Moon in Virgo on Monday as well as Mercury’s conjunction to Mars. In general when Mercury is retrograde there can be misunderstandings in communication but when Mars is involved people can have a short fuse, conversations can become more heated and the likelihood of passive aggressive behavior is more likely. Avoid rushing, leave extra time when traveling, anticipate delays, be extra clear with communication, practice patience and try not to take things personally.

The Sun enters Pisces

“Behind our existence lies something else that becomes accessible to us only by our shaking off the world.” Arthur Schopenhauer

The images on the Tarot Cards have evolved down through time. For example the image on the Ace of Cups in the earliest decks was a chalice – symbolizing that a connection to God was to be found exclusively through the teachings of the Catholic Church. With the advent of the Protestant reformation the image on the Ace of Cups changed to a heart- symbolizing that each individual could be in touch with God or with the divine through one’s own heart or spiritual practice.

This is a good image for the Sun’s entrance into Pisces this week. Pisces is a spiritual, intuitive, creative sign and when properly actualized can feel the interconnectedness of all life as well as the realms of soul and spirit. For the next few weeks it bodes well to cultivate a stronger bond to our own sense of inner knowing and to seek inspiration, guidance and direction on the inner planes.

quote from Divine Sparks by Karen Speerstra

Mars, Chiron and Mercury

One of my favorite teaching stories involves a curse made on a newborn child by a fairy who was not invited to the christening. One of the things this story shows is the power of speech to frighten and wound others. We have all been victims of critical and discouraging speech – whether intentional or not. With Mars, Chiron and Mercury together in Pisces now breakthroughs are possible about personal power that has been lost due internalizing attitudes that were not ours to begin with. This can be helpful in reclaiming power and moving in a direction of increased authenticity.

New Moon in Aquarius

“We don’t stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing.” Satchel Paige

The New Moon is Sunday 2/10 at 21 degrees of Aquarius. One of the Sabian symbols associated with this placement is, “A Rug Placed on the Floor for Children to Play On.” It is a good time to let dreams and visions evolve and let the imagination roam. There is power in this New Moon for clear intentions. Be on the lookout for new opportunities and for kindred spirits who may help actualize your aspirations.

Chiron’s Influence this Month

“The quality of the imagination is to flow and not to freeze.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

This month much significant planetary activity involves Chiron – the asteroid of the Wounded Healer. Wherever Chiron falls in an individual’s chart there is a life long evolutionary journey of wounding and healing. There is usually fragmentation in the way we think about this area of life and a sense and track record that our dreams may easily elude us here. Manifesting goals in this area is more difficult partly because there are pieces missing from our imaginings of it. This month as various planets align with Chiron information about how to create a more complete picture of this area of life will be available. And the information will help to make the visions real. Heed dreams, musings and intuitions.

February 2013 Astrology

“The world is but canvas to our imagination.” Henry David Thoreau

February is a good month to keep your own counsel – to rely on your intuition and inner sense of knowing as it may be difficult to discern the meaning of events as they appear and are interpreted in the outer world. Neptune’s influence is strong all month – meaning illusion is about.

Deepening intuition, freeing the imagination to explore and create and growing in empathy are good directions to take all month long.It is bodes well to keep levels of inspiration high. Inspiration is about and can be more easily tapped into especially if a place is carved out for it in the midst of busy daily routines.

It is also a good idea to nurture and strengthen the immune system.

Notable Planetary Activity this month:

Early in the month:

Mars moves into Pisces forming a conjunction to Neptune and Chiron. This is a good time to consider the appropriate use of personal power and work on healing and repairing any related wounds of an emotional nature. Information about his process may come through dreams, intuitions and inspirations so do heed information that comes through these channels.

Venus moves into Aquarius trining Jupiter: This is a good time to consider our interrelationship with all of humanity and the natural world. It can bring joy, expansiveness and pleasure. Avoid excess.

Venus sextiles Uranus: This can bring love at first sight experiences as well as breakthroughs in areas of relationship, finances and happiness. Heed innovative solutions and pathways.

Mercury, Mars and Jupiter’s alignment indicates it bodes well to think before you speak or act as there is an indication that impulsive speech and action can lead to trouble. Conversation can take a more adversarial tone and more conflict can be about.

The New Moon is at 21 Aquarius on 2/10 EST. The wind is at our back with positive and clear intention setting as the Jupiter Mars square has excess energy to lend.

On the 11th Venus moves up to a square with Saturn. Squares indicate the need to overcome and at this time feelings of scarcity can easily arise. Moderation is key. Everything is in a state of evolution regardless of appearances.

Mid Month: Saturn stations retrograde in Scorpio on the 18th. This can be a frustrating time in terms of accomplishing things. It is best to avoid frustration and pushing too hard.

The Sun moves up to a conjunction with Neptune on the 21st – a good time for creative work and spiritual growth but can bring confusion to mundane matters.

Mercury stations retrograde on the 23 – get any necessary repairs done and contracts signed before that point if possible.

The Full Moon is at 7 degrees of Virgo on the 25.

Venus Conjuncts Pluto

“Your words and actions are magical – they create waves of energy that travel out into the world and nature.” David Spangler

Communications can become more testy this week as Venus moves up to a conjunction with Pluto – old wounds can be more easily triggered as well as concerns about scarcity (of love, resources etc) . It is a good time to practice diplomacy and to avoid engaging conflict. On a spiritual level this aspect has to do with deepening our understanding of love as a force in the world by transforming painful or longstanding wounds.
